Panel Assembly and Wiring Skills that Every Panel Wirer Needs

What is a Panel Wirer?

The Panel Wirer also know as a Electrical Fitter is a skilled electrician who can read and interpret circuit drawing and wiring diagrams, and implement these electrical requirements in actual components. They follow the relevant electrical regulations, and the latest best practices to assemble and modify the electrical control panel while complying with safety regulations. Typical responsibilities include enclosure assembly, enclosure cutting, drilling, component installation, cable connection, and termination as per engineering drawings and project specifications. Other responsibilities include troubleshooting, soldering and desoldering circuits, identifying defective units, inspecting and reworking panels as needed, inspecting and testing control products, drives, motors, wires, systems, etc.

The panel wirer has confidence in his knowledge of the construction and wiring of various engineering systems. They convert engineering drawings and wiring diagrams into electronic or mechanical systems. Ensure that the structure of the power supply components of the equipment or system is correctly wired and works effectively without any problems.

Panel wirer needs to have a good understanding of electrical engineering and experience in electrical assembly with a technical aptitude, thorough understanding of electrical components, the ability to use hand tools to assemble the components, and the ability to understand and interpret electrical drawing and wiring diagrams. It is also important for them to understand all relevant electrical and safety regulations, and knowledge of mechanical and/or pneumatics will also be beneficial.

Panel Wirer Essential Skillsets to effectively perform day-to-day work

Circuit Drawings and Wiring Diagrams

Circuit diagrams and wiring diagrams are technical diagrams for the construction of electrical circuits and electronic systems. Panel wirer is required to be able to understand and interpret these drawings. Experienced wirer can also collaborate to create these drawings.

Technical Skills

On-the-job skills such as soldering and crimping, relay lines and loom cables are vital skills to ensure that the panel wirer can provide the best results for their ongoing projects.
Confidence in the use of drilling and cutting tools and equipment is equally important.

Communication Skills

The panel wirer must confidently identify any issues and communicate professionally, competently and courteously with customers, suppliers and colleagues through oral and written communication.

Electrical Knowledge

In order to provide solutions to common problems, panel wirer needs to gain knowledge and understanding of a wider range of electrical components and systems.

Efficiency

Sometimes it may be unavoidable to need to rewiring or modify the circuit, the panel wirer must be as efficient as possible and reduce the time required for rewiring or rework.
Panel wirer should be cautious and efficient to reduce errors and be proud of their work, while always complying with health and safety policies, and adhere to quality controls and schedules
